Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday to hear about the last year in the world of Bike Waikato!

We adopted a new Constitution that allows us to continue to be registered as a Charity and Incorporated Society. We also elected a new committee that are excited and energised about the next year.

It will be a long and hard year with the slowing down and, in some cases, active backtracking of active transport and safety improvement projects. But we have plenty of ideas of how to keep cycling at the forefront and keep our community involved and informed.

Support from Cycle Action Network (CAN) allowed us to attend a cycling advocacy conference in Poneke Wellington where we connected with cycling advocates from across the country.

A core theme that arose from discussions is our membership base. Did you know that less than 10% of the people subscribed to our newsletter are financial members of Bike Waikato?

Memberships start from $10 annually unwaged and $30 annually waged.

Memberships help us to cover the fixed costs of running Bike Waikato, such as website and domain hosting, including our monthly newsletter. We also use the money to pay for printing (flyers and resources), food and room bookings for community events that we host, gear for our bike valet service, and more!

At the Te Awa Pekapeka (Peacocke) Bridge Opening, we handed out over 300 flyers and maps about cycling in Kirikiriroa Hamilton and along the Te Awa River Trail.

Memberships help us cover our fixed costs and achieve our mission of advocating for safe cycling in the Waikato.
