Heaphy Terrace and Morrinsville Road/Silverdale Road – Email HCC! πŸ“€

At the upcoming Transport and Infrastructure Committee Meeting at Hamilton City Council, Councillors will decide whether to go ahead with macroscope approval for multi-modal improvements at Heaphy Terrace and Morrinsville Road/Silverdale Road. Macroscope approval means Councillors will decide whether the projects can go ahead to detailed design and consultation with the community.

At Heaphy Terrace, planned works include a raised safety platform and a pedestrian crossing. Morrinsville Road/Silverdale Road will see similar improvements.

We know that there is wide support for projects like these, even if some Councillors like to pretend that is not the case. We will be presenting in the public forum to make it clear that the community supports safety improvements for active modes such as walking and cycling – but we need your help to do this. Especially if you live in areas that will be affected by the works, please email [email protected] to express your support and ask for your thoughts to be circulated to Councillors.

Peacockes Bridge Opening – Who Says Hamiltonians Don’t Ride Bikes?

Did you check out the open day for Te Awa Pekapeka (informally known as Peacockes) Bridge?

Tens of thousands of people turned out to walk and ride the bridge before it opened to motor traffic. We had a stall set up and chatted to hundreds of people living in Hamilton and beyond about safer cycling and our values and mahi. We gave out dozens of maps and flyers!

In the midst of negativity about cycling from central Government and a lack of funding for local governments, it was a great reminder about how widespread the support is within our communities.

Who says Hamiltonians don’t love riding bikes?

Next Month is Biketober!

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it is time to get back out on our bikes and celebrate.

Throughout the month of October, Hamilton City will be celebrating cycling with events across the city. Our flagship event will be our ride along the Te Awa River Trail to Karapiro (and back!) – find more info here.
